Icarus
Digital painting
by Arilès
Work statement:
Some people don't just "play". They dance, fly, and turn every movement into poetry.
To me, Ronaldinho was exactly that kind of person ——
He was a “child of games” who never forgot his sense of playfulness, and a master of instability.
He is the man who touched the sun with the ball at his feet.
I titled this digital painting "Icarus" because
it reminded me of the myth of flight.
That moment floating in the air, dazzling and almost breaking.
Ronaldinho didn't fall, he just floated.
He defied gravity not out of arrogance, but out of elegance.
Like Icarus, he soared higher.
It wasn't out of pride, but out of sheer joy of flying.
The production process was instinctive and almost physical.
I first sketched the "movement" ——
The moment when everything changes: the jump, the ball, the gaze.
From there, I immersed myself in the digital world, as if diving into a vivid dream.
The texture is thick, and I was conscious of the texture being like paint.
The dazzling lights of the stadium contrasted with the depth of the sky, and each color contained the heartbeat.
The stadium becomes the universe, and the players become celestial bodies.
Through 'Icarus' I wanted to celebrate not only the athlete himself, but
what he evoked in me.
Freedom, beauty, and joyful rebellion.
Dream as many times as you like — even if your wings get a little burnt.
